birds on distant pilgrimages

his face next to mine in morning

his face always next to mine

where it goes when it goes

like a snake to a low hole

where i’ve left my beginnings

because i forgot to stake my claim

before light blinded me

Jillian Koopman lives in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a graduate of the Florida State University's creative writing program. She writes poetry and fiction, and teaches English at Georgia Military College in Fairburn, Georgia.
